Stainless steel A286 is a heat and corrosion resistant austenitic iron-base material that may be age hardened to some high strength level. It is made for use at temperatures up to 704°C (1300°C ) where good corrosion resistance, excellent creep strength and also tensile strength are expected. The alloy may also be used for cold applications which need a ductile, non-magnetic high strength material at temperatures below room temperature.

Manufacturing process
Generally, warm alloyshigh-temperature alloys are hard to machine than stainless steels. However, stainless steel A286, an iron-base alloy group iron base alloy is simpler to machine compared to nickel-based precipitation-hardening gradesthe nickel-based precipitation-hardening grades. Carbon insert tools are commonly used for machining this alloy. Although A286 alloy is harder than other stainless steels, it can be satisfactorily cold drawn and formed. It may be work-hardened rapidly. Forging of this alloy can be at temperatures including 1038 to 1121°C (1900 to 2050°C temperature).
A286 alloy can even be manufactured by argon oxygen decarburization or vacuum induction melting. Vacuum arc or electroslag remelting techniques is known to refine the alloy.
Applications
These are the major uses of Grade A286 stainless steel:
Aircraft and industrial gas turbine
Flange
nuts
Super-charger components
Jet engines blades
Castings
Frames and fasteners
Sockets
Screws
Afterburner parts.
